Indiana Geography
Indiana is located in the Midwest on the south shore of Lake Michigan and is bordered on the north by Lake Michigan and the state of Michigan, on the east by Ohio, on the south by Kentucky with which it shares the Ohio River as a border, and on the west by Illinois.
Indiana is the home os several fine universities including Notre Dame, Perdue, and the University of Indiana.

The 2000 population was 6,080,485. Indiana is a state of mostly small towns and midsize cities. Its largest city and capital is Indianapolis, where the nation's most famous auto race, the Indianapolis 500, is held each year.
The total gross state product in 1999 was $182 billion placing Indiana 15th in the nation. Indianas Per Capita Income is $27,011. The states agricultural outputs are corn, soybeans, hogs, cattle, dairy products and eggs. Its industrial outputs are steel, electrical equipment, transportation equipment, chemical products, petroleum and coal products and machinery. In addition, Indiana has the international headquarters of the Eli Lilly and the US headquarters of the Roche pharmaceutical companies.
