Georgia Geography
Georgia, located in the south-eastern corner of the United States, is the 10th most populous of the states with a population of 8,186,453 as of the 2000 census. About half of the states citizens live in the Atlanta Metro area.
Georgia is bordered on the south by Florida, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and South Carolina, on the west by Alabama, and on the north by Tennessee and North Carolina. It is the largest state east of the Mississippi River. The northern part of the state, generally referred to as "the North Georgia Mountians", is in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a beautiful mountain range in the Appalachians. The central piedmont extends from the foothills to the fall line, where the rivers cascade down in elevation to the continental coastal plain of the southern part of the state. The highest point in Georgia is Brasstown Bald, 4784 feet; the lowest point is sea level.
