Here are brief explanations for some of the questions that you may have about our Classified Ads.


How do I post an ad?

At the top of each page, just under our "Global Village Ads" logo there is a link to "Place Ad". On most pages on the upper left there is a button to "Place Ad".

  1. Click "Place Ad" at the top of the page or the "Place Ad" button.
  2. Select the desired section for your ad
  3. If you have previously regestered with any of the Global Village Ads site, enter you username and password. If you have not registered, click on the "Register for an Account" link in the upper portion of the sign-in form.
  4. Enter the information in the new ad data entry form. Please note that items with a red asterisk are required entry (there are only a few).
  5. Select the options for how long to run the ad and the visibility options.
  6. When finished with the form, click the "Preview My Ad" button at the bottom.
  7. The payment form is then displayed showing you the exact cost. Here you will find the place to enter your credit card information. Please note that there is an option to pay by check also. If you are not in the US and would like to pay by check, see the answer for foreign currency.
  8. Also on the payment form is a copy of your ad. This is a good time to check for errors. Use your Back button to make corrections.
  9. Click the "Post My Ad" button.
  10. The confirmation page with your "ad number" will be displayed. Make a note of your ad number, login username, and password.
  11. The bottom portion of the page has a place to enter your photo or multimedia file. Click this option and browse your computer for the desired file. Photos can be as large as 600 x 600 pixels. You can ad more photos later.

Are the ads really free?

Yes. Your ad can have up to six photos and there is no charge. The ad will run until removed by you (for up to a full year). We do offer a few upgrades to make your ad stand out or list at the top of search results, but they are entirely optional. If you want "the works", the most you can spend is $15.00. Over 95% of the ads in our classifieds are placed without any upgrades.

Can I pay by check?

Yes. If you do select any of the options mentioned above, you can pay by check. When you get to the payment screen there is an option to click to pay by check. Select this by clicking on it and ignore the credit card entry fields. An invoice will be immediately emailed to you with the amount and our address.

Do I have to pay in US Dollars?

No. If you do select any of the options mentioned above, you can pay by check in your local currency. .Estimate the amount in your currency to equal the amount due. If you prefer you can go to www.xe.com and and click on "Curreny Converter" near the top of their screen to calculate the amount. Just make your check as you would for a local purchase and send to to the address on our emailed invoice.

Why do I have to register?

You need to register to create a username and password so that you and only you can modify or delete your ad. We do NOT give your email address to anyone. The only purpose we use your email for is to communicate with you about your ad. When you enter your ad, you will be given an ad number. When you need to change your ad you will need to know your username, password, and ad number.

Do I have to use my real name when posting a message?

No. Even if you use your real name when you register (and we encourage that), you do not have to use your real name when you post an ad. The script will simply publish whatever you put in the first and last name fields. If you feel more comfortable, you can use a nickname or pseudoname.

Can I put HTML tags anywhere in my posts?

No. You can not use HTML tags in the body of the message. If you put HTML tags in your message, the script will just throw out everything in between the <>'s. You do have the option, however, of putting a link to a picture of something if you have posted it somewhere else on the Web.

What should I put in the "Details/Description" box?

This is where you can "wax poetic" about what you are selling describing features and items not covered in the other data fields.

How do I add more photos?

You can have up to six photos in your ad. After the ad has been entered, here is the best way to add more pictures.

  1. Get into the classified ads portion of our website.
  2. Click on "Edit Ad" in the blue bar at the top or bottom of the screen.
  3. Enter you username and password in the Login Screen.
  4. Choose the section with your ad in it, probably Cars for Sale and Wanted.
  5. Click on the "Add/Edit Multimedia Files" button.
  6. The "Multimedia Manager" screen will be displayed. Click on the "Add Multimedia File" button.
  7. On this next screen enter your Ad Number.
  8. Use the "Browse" button to locate the picture file on your computer
  9. Click on the "Upload Multimedia File to your Ad" button
  10. Repeat all of these steps, except you don’t have to login again, for each photo you want to add.

Why didn't my classified ad show up?

Your classified ad most likely did not show up because either you were in the wrong category (such as "Parts" instead of "Cars") or you specified search criteria that don’t appear in your ad. If so, please verify that you selected the correct category and then broaden your search by leaving more of the search fields blank.

How do I modify my ad?

At the bottom of every page you will find the "Modify Ad" button. If you click on this button, you will see a search form. The form will ask for the ad number and the password that you entered with this ad. Once you have entered these, click on the "Search for Item to Modify" button. If you entered the correct information, your ad will be displayed with a modification form beneath it. The current information from your ad will already be filled in, so you only need to modify the fields that you want to change. Once you have filled in the form, click on the "Submit Modification(s)" button. You should then see an acknowledgement page if your ad was successfully modified.

How do I remove my ad?

At the bottom of every page you will find the "Delete Ad" button. If you click on this button, you will see a search form. The form will ask for the ad number and the password that you entered with this ad. Once you have entered these, click on the "Search for Item to Delete" button. Narrow your search by filling in the fields with information specific to your ad (such as your last name, etc.) and click on the "Search for Item to Delete" button. If you entered the correct information, your ad will be displayed with a warning beneath it indicating that you are about to delete it. If you are sure that you want to delete this ad, click on the "Delete This Ad" button. You should then see an acknowledgement page if your ad was successfully deleted.

Why didn’t my search turn up any hits?

Your search criteria may have been too narrow. Go back to the search form and leave more of the search fields blank, or click on the "New Search" button and do a general search. For the broadest possible search, simply click on the "See All Ads" button.

How do I navigate the search results page?

The results of your search will be displayed on the search results page. To see more of your search results, you can click on the "See The Next X Hits" button beneath the ads displayed on this page.
